About the Langata Giraffe Centre there is not too much to say: the center raises giraffes and reintroduces
them to the wild. It is rather out of the way; you can either get a matatatu from the bomas of Kenya or grab a taxi. However, if you haven’t visited the other attractions that are in the area by using a taxi it’s going to be rather hard to find one. And if you’re white you will be obscenely overcharged anyway. On the other side, taking the matatu from the Bomas of Kenya can be deceiving since you have so walk from the station for about 1.5 kilometers. If you want to get a taxi from the city and visit all the things that are in the suburbs you will want to see the following sites: the Nairobi Safari Walk, the David Sheldrik Wildlife Trust, the Bomas of Kenya and the Langata Giraffe Centre. A fair price for the cab should be around 1500 Kenyan Shillings. You should not pay more than 1800 Shillings which, as of August 2008, means around 30 US dollars.
Do play with the giraffes at the Langata Giraffe Centre, hand feed them and even kiss them the way I did! The entrance to the center is 700 Shillings unless you have your student card in which case it costs only 250 Shillings.
After playing with the giraffes you can eat or drink something at the restaurant that is adjacent to the center. I was really thirsty when I got there, so the restaurant was exactly what I was looking for.
Do wash your hands after “playing” with the giraffes, especially if you do not have the Hepatitis B vaccine.
This should be your last stop after the Nairobi Safari Walk, the David Sheldrik Wildlife Trust and the Bomas of Kenya, for no other reasons but the location of the attraction.
